E-learning

Today we had our first E-learning session.
We had three tasks to complete.
One for hairdressing, one for Maths and one for English.

It kept us busy as you can see!

Freshers fair time

What a great freshers fair we had this year.
Lots of stalls from the sexual health team to slimming world. The police, fire brigade, even skateboarding and ice creams. Lots of things to join and take part in, the whole thing had a real buzz to it.

Shampooing!

Our first shampooing experience today.
Lisa showed us a demonstration using Hassan ( who seemed to really enjoy it) then we got into pairs and had a try ourselves.
We loved it and felt like 'proper' hairdressers!

Next came the drying of the hair and we learnt some techniques to get the hair smooth.
Lisa and Mary both said we were amazing.

Some of the things we learnt were...
The massages have strange names and we must learn how to spell them.
Shampoo is measured in millilitres.
It is very relaxing if done properly.
The hair should be dried from root to tip
Different brushes do different things.

Our L.R.C induction

Now we know everything about the L.R.C.

AND EVEN GOT A FREE PEN FOR COMPLETING IT ALL CORRECTLY!

No excuse for having no pen in theory now!

Learning about hairdressing equipment

Our kits have been ordered but we still need to learn what all the equipment is called and what it is used for.
We did it in a fun way including hangman for our literacy and relating some equipment to maths.

We are getting less camera shy too!

Treasure hunt time

I mentioned in past posts that I was teaching the Entry 3 level this year as well as the level ones.
The entry 3 programme is a mixture of Hair and Beauty and we have lots of exciting things planned.
For their induction with me today we did a 'treasure hunt' round college.
Clues had been hidden in different places.

From this, the group now know,

Where the hairdressing books are in the L.R.C.
How to get to the hair and beauty department
How to find an email.
Where I can be found if they need me.
Where the notice boards are,
Where the reception desk is.

It was fun!

The first practical session.

We had a choice of bridal hair or punk hair.
We were given the block heads and all the equipment we needed but Lisa and Mary gave us no help, they wanted to see what we were capable of.
We discussed all the different techniques we managed to do at the end of the session.
We think Lisa and Mary were impressed!

Not sure who these strange looking people are?

Ha ha it's only us! ( a little less camera shy today)

The balloons were challenging today!

Teambuilding task.
Making chairs out of balloons.
Two teams and 30 minutes to build a chair that someone can sit on for 30 seconds.
We had two teams who did a bit of head scratching at first but soon got into it.
Unfortunately one team had real challenge on their hands as their 'chair' POPPED with only 10 minutes remaining!
But they make do and here are the results.

Georgina and Paige did the brave job of sitting on them and they did last 30 seconds ( We have no idea how! )

We had great fun popping them all after!

What a good ( noisy) morning we had.

A little camera shy?

Well the first induction day has arrived and to say the new students were a little camera shy is an understatement. They will soon be cured of that!

They found out lots about the course and each other, met our English and Maths tutors, had a tour of the college and are now ready for the first practical session tomorrow!

Lovely to met you.
James, Hassan, Ella, Amy, Kelly, Jade, Georgina, Lydia,
Meeting a few more tomorrow and next week too!
