Teamwork and building confidence.

Today we took a trip into our local town to test out our questionairres.
We are are armed with clipboards and pens.

We were all nervous at first but slowly managed to pluck up the courage to ask the public some of our questions.

It was so cold we decided to warm up and discuss our findings in Costa coffee.

Back at college we had chance to write up what we found and we are now ready to complete our assignment!
We never thought we would be able to talk to the public like we did.
Not a bad day at all.

Using a streaking cap.

We have been dying ( get it? Dyeing) to colour our block heads. Now we have completed our first uniform layer it was time to show us how to produce some capped highlights.
After demonstration we got underway.

This poor block can't see much

That's better!

Gently pulling the hair through the holes with a crochet hook.

Keep going until all the head is covered.

Next we mixed the bleach and peroxide using one scoop of bleach to two scoops of peroxide. There goes the maths again!

Make sure the hair is all covered.

Put on a processing cap and wait.

It's starting to lift.

Rinse and  put conditioner on the hair to help ease the cap off.
( but don't suffocate your client! as below)

Teamwork!

Blow dry and see the different effects.

We enjoyed that.

Sophie Lancaster event preparations.

Last week we did the hair and makeup for an event we were organising at college to celebrate everyone being different. It was a fundraising event for the Sophie Lancaster foundation.
She was a local girl who was brutally murdered just for looking different.
We all got involved, some of us even coming in on our day off just to be a part it all.

We worked really hard preparing the models. From hippys to goths, punks, to vintage we did them all!

All hands on deck.

We all worked really well and showed great teamwork.

Lisa and Mary helped us.

Next the makeup.

It's beginning to come together.

We soon got into character and after a big clean up, we went down to prepare for the catwalk show!

The end of week 12

What have we learnt this week?

How to apply temporary colours.
How many different temporary colours there are.
How to stencil.
How to use chalks.
How to use them in a style.
The advantages and disadvantages of temporary colours.
The primary colours.
The secondary colours.
How many colours you can make out of 3 colours.
How the opposite colours neutralise each other.
What is involved in making a total look.
That there are lots of different themes to choose from.
We can't wait to start doing themed work.
All about the nails.
Wilson and maybe Emma are going to audition for our college talent competition!
All about nail shapes.
How to get blow dries smoother.
Working as a team is fun!
We are learning to work with each other.
What onscalp and off scalp plaits are.
We have got another assignment to do.
We know how to make a stylebook.
We are great at getting ourselves out of a human knot!

Another busy week.

Practising teamwork.

After last weeks bickering in the class, Lisa decided to treat us all to some team building fun.
She called in the help of Alexis who soon had us tied up in knots working as a team to undo ourselves.

Then throwing hoola hoops over and round each other!

Dishes and domes was great fun and we were soon laughing our heads off, forgetting any past arguments.

TEAMWORK!!

We had such a good time we are doing it again next week!

Teamwork takes a combined effort

Every class has different personalities, some strong, some loud, some quiet.
When similar personalities are with each other day in day out it can cause friction.
This was getting to be the case with us and today it hopefully came to an end.

Lisa told us she had had enough of our bickering and that we needed to sort ourselves out!

She told us she wanted us to think, while we were working of one thing we like about each person in the group. At first we didn't think we could do it but by the end of the session we all sat down and did it with surprising results.
We found out things we never expected to and had a great discussion about it all.
We think we are going to get on a lot better in future!

Peer learning. Rosie's triumph.

Rosie was convinced she would never learn how to do a French plait.
Today we proved her wrong.
Lisa tried to show her but she still couldn't grasp it. So Kelly tried to show her, no it still wasn't happening.
Then Zahir, who had managed to master it, stepped in.

And the result!

Well done Rosie and well done Zahir. That's teamwork for you!
Peer learning at it's best!

The great balloon chair challenge.

Two teams, 100's of balloons, scissors, sellotape and string.
The aim, to make a chair out of balloons and to be able to sit on it for 30 seconds.
Lots of blowing up of balloons to do first...

Some very different styles forming...

Two very stylish chairs... But can you sit on them?

That will be a no then!

We even made some fashion accessories!

Then had great fun popping them all!

What a great time we all had.
We learnt how to work as a team, solve problems and communicate with each other.
That was all in a morning. See what we did in the afternoon.
