Reviewing our cuts

No better way to learn than practise practise practise!

Great sectioning!

To get better on our sectioning we are finding to be really important, especially when we are cutting.

So today we concentrated on sectioning.

We did amazingly well, so Lisa let us do some cutting! Yeah!

There is so much to remember, sectioning, angles, guidelines, palming, combing, sitting, standing, crossing legs. Phew!

Preparing for level two

With the competition over and our practical assessments complete, it's time to recap on our cutting skills again. We surprised ourselves with how much we had remembered. Each of us choosing which cut we wanted to try again.

It's all coming together.

Another week nearer our competition and we are in full swing.

Colouring, cutting, painting, setting, creating our world book looks.

Who is this man?

He looks like Adam, he talks like Adam but he doesn't cut like Adam!

Adam won't mind me saying that when it came down to cutting hair, he struggled.

Sectioning wasn't his strong point which then made the cut hard to follow.

Well today that changed. Adam ( unless he had a double to stand in for him) did a uniform layered haircut brilliantly!  Lovely clean sections and correct angles. 

We kept joking about whether or not this was the real Adam. But I'm sure it is.

Well done Adam. So proud of you for your perseverance and determination. 

You rock!

What would YOU like to practise was the theme this week.

Cutting, foiling blow drying and plaiting were chosen by the first group who decided that these were the areas they wanted to gain more confidence in.

Working hard and getting better!

We have been working on all different things this week. From total looks to assignments, from cutting to plaiting, from shampooing to curly blow dries, manicures and more.. But that's another post! 

We all got on with the individual things that we needed to practise on and Lisa said we worked really well.

We learnt lots this week!

All about bacterial infections.

What a virus is.

What infections look like.

What a head louse looks like under a microscope.

How to cut a layered cut.

What 180 degrees looks like.

Remembered about one length cutting.

What a layered cut can be styled like.

Head lice can't jump!

A nit is the egg.

They stick to the hair.

A wart is a virus.

What a fungal infection is.

What to do if a client has headline.

Don't panic.

We behaved really well this week.

Lisa is a fab teacher.

What the life cycle of a head louse is.

We itch when we talk about head lice.

We hope we don't come across any of these.

We all have or know someone that has all of the infections.

More cutting!

We got to practise our inverted layers again today.

We were glad because we could still remember it and with a bit of help from Lisa and Mary we were soon mastering it.

Inverted layering success!

Wow today we were doing inverted layering! We couldn't wait to start! 

After a recap on our one length cutting Lisa showed us step by step how to cut at 180 degrees. 

Here we are hard at it!

We had things to work on between demos.

And we managed to complete the cut in one morning we worked so hard.

The end of week 16

Another busy week. Here is what we have learnt.

How to do a one length cut.

How to hold scissors.

How to create volume in a one length blow dry.

How to impress Lisa.

How to raise above childishness.

That everyone in the class has some skin or hair infections.

Different size sections for different hair types.

Not to put tension round the ears.

Non infectious means you can't catch it.

There are 8 types of Alopecia.

How to hand assignments in on time.

What happens when we don't...

We have completed 13 assignments now!

There are lots of skin infections.

What to do if a client has an infection.

Sebaceous cysts are horrible!

Kirsty thinks she has all the conditions!

We are a bit nearer sorting models out for the Sophie Lancaster event. 

We can't wait to do some more cutting next week!

Yeah at last we were cutting again.

We did remember some of what we learnt last time but Lisa soon recapped everything with a step by step demonstration and we soon got started.

We have learnt loads this week.
How to use products.
How to hold a pair of scissors correctly
That the finger hold comes off if you want it to.
Which products to use on wet or dry hair.
How many different product there are.
That scissors are REALLY sharp!
How to do a one length cut.
What a dressing cream is.
How to do a Manicure correctly.
How to do a waterfall plait.
How to french plait at last!
We like hair better than beauty.
All the different brands of products.
What a difference products make to a hairstyle.
How to start a pin-up when the hair is straight.
How to get the most out of hair when your pinning it up.
How to do Twists.
That the woman on you tube called kirby grips 'bobby' pins which made us all laugh.
Afro carribean hair is easier to plait.
Emma would be great on Xfactor!!

So excited to be CUTTING!

First practical after half term and we asked Lisa what we were doing. When see showed us the board and it said we needed scissors, we all got very excited!

After a talk about scissors and cutting, we started guided by a step by step demonstration from Lisa.

We soon got to know how to hold out scissors and combs.

And cut ourselves!

Yeah we managed it.
